M. Gianni signed watercolour painting Neapolitan
An attractive gouache / watercolour of the Bay of Naples with an erupting Mount Vesuvius in the distance by the listed Italian artist, M. Gianni, signed bottom right. It dates from the early 20th Century and would have been purchased by an English tourist on the Grand Tour.
It remains in its original mount for protection but the old frame has been discarded as it was quite damaged.

Condition: The gouache painting is in good condition. There is some minor foxing at the top right.
Postage & packing: Within the UK is £6.50. Please contact us for a quote for international destinations.
Biography:
M. Gianni flourished in the early 20th Century, an Italian Watercolour Painter of Mediterranean scenes with a specialty in Neapolitan landscapes often with Vesuvius erupting in the background. He was a prolific artist and his work appears at auction regularly with several watercolours and gouaches surpassing hammer prices of £1000. A very similar view, even showing the same pair of pine trees alongside the coastal road, though the colours are somewhat faded, was sold by Bonhams in San Francisco for £288 including premium.
