A charming oil sketch of Loch Awe on artist board. The piece is done quickly plein air and shows the famous ruined cast on Loch Awe. The painting has caught a time and place wonderfully well with a clever use of a few colours and was most likely a sketch to be worked into a larger detailed work. The work is in excellent untouched condition and is signed Morris to the lower right. I have been unable to identify the artist because of the lack of any initial to this relatively common surname. The painting is mounted in the original frame which is in good untouched condition with some areas of light overpaint and minor repairs. The whole has a great period decorative look and is ready to hang. C.1900.
