Late Victorian Mahogany Partners Desk Victorian mahogany pedestal %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Circa 1890, a late Victorian mahogany pedestal partners desk by Maple & Co. The rectangular desk has a mahogany crossbanded top with a green tooled and gilded leather (by Kerby & co) and locks by Hobbs & Co London. The top has a moulded edge and below this on one side is a configuration of one long drawer in the centre over a bank of 4 graduating drawers on the left and right hand pedestals. The drawers have their original cast brass swan neck handles and the fronts are framed with mahogany beadings. The fore edges have reeding on the front running down all the way to the base. The gables have double panels which are fielded. There are similar panels on the inside of the desk also. On the opposite side is 1 long drawer and 2 short drawers, and below are 2 panelled doors which open to show a shelf. The desk is standing on an enclosed plinth. Excellent condition.
