Large Pearlware Durham Ox Meat Platter
A rare early 19th century pearlware blue & white meat plate, circa 1820. The platter is decorated in the Durham Ox pattern with the ox, and it's owner John Day, facing each other in a landscape.
The Durham Ox which became famous in the early 19th century was an early example of what became the Shorthorn breed of cattle. A carriage, drawn by four horses, was specially made to transport him around the country where he was exhibited to the public.
The plate is 22" (56 cm) wide and 17" (43 cm) high and is in excellent condition. All items are sold with a 14 day money back guarantee. In the unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase, we will gladly issue a refund (excluding carriage costs). The item must be returned in the same condition as it left us. The refund will be issued on the item's return to our premises.
