Superb early 18th.c. oak box settle c.1740. Slightly angled backrest with an attractive shaped top rail over an unusual configuration of raised and fielded panels. Large seat with hinged front section lifting to reveal useful storage inside for boots and shoes etc. Five raised and fielded panels to the front below the seat. Panelled sides and rear, oak floor boards. Good early timbers with pronounced grain and particularly good colour and patina to the backrest. Stamped with the initials WR. Some old wear and repairs, most obviously to the lower portion of the left hand rear stile. Otherwise very good condition, solid and sturdy with great rustic character. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
