Large framed mid-century landscape painting in on canvas by the Belgian artist Joris Houwen (1925-1998) dated 1969. The sun (or possibly a full moon) sits low on the horizon over a rural landscape of farms and fields dotted with bare trees. In the foreground stands a tiny workman or shepherd's hut on wheels beside a tall telegraph pole. Painted with an unusual technique with a textured primer seemingly applied before the coloured paintwork. Signature and dated '69 in the lower right hand corner of the canvas. Presented as found in a moulded wooden frame with gilded front. Minor damage to the surface of the frame at the sides, otherwise very good condition.
