A beautifully crafted Japanese hibachi (shichirin), dating from the late Meiji to Taisho period (circa 1890–1920). This portable brazier is constructed from richly grained Keyaki wood (Japanese Zelkova). The rectangular body houses a metal-lined basin designed for charcoal, traditionally used for heating and boiling water. Surrounding this are multiple drawers with brass handles, thoughtfully arranged for storing utensils, fuel, and accessories. Presented in excellent antique condition, with gentle signs of age and use, this hibachi remains structurally sound and visually compelling. It offers a rare glimpse into pre-modern Japanese domestic life, and today serves as a decorative accent, conversation piece, or repurposed functional object—perfect for collectors or stylists seeking depth, character, and craftsmanship.
