Shaped as a book.
Although it opens at both ends, only have one end open at a time as the pressure exerted on the edge, which acts as a spring, will be enough to break it.
Approximate dimensions: 60mm x 39mm x 14mm, weight 16.4g.
"Ricordo" on the back is Italian for souvenir so I imagine this was originally bought as an Italian holiday souvenir.
The striker part of the vesta is missing, please see photos.
Difficult to date this item but I would imagine it comes from around the late Victorian/Edwardian era.
