This is a stunning Italian cedar chest on a grand scale with a fabulous colour and immense charm. The coffer has a three-plank top above panelled sides and a four-panel front, each fielded panel inlaid with stars within a lozenge and applied with brass studs. The chest dates from the mid 18th century and is constructed from thick cedar planks which have some historic signs of age, wear and old worm as you would expect from a chest that is approaching 300 years old. The chest is in excellent condition overall including its original hoop and ring hand forged iron hinges that still function perfectly. The carcase also has a most decorative featherbanding inlay in a chevron rail design.

This fine chest measures 63cm high, 182cm wide and 62cm deep.
