IB Kofod Larsen Teak Sideboard G Plan Range

IB Kofod Larsen Teak Sideboard for G Plan Danish Range
This high-end mid-century sideboard, designed by Ib Kofod Larsen for G Plan's exclusive Danish Range, showcases a beautiful warm teak finish and elegant lines. It offers ample storage space, featuring five central drawers, with the top drawer including the original grey felt-lined cutlery section, along with shelved cupboards. The shelves inside each cupboard are removable and height-adjustable. The handles are crafted from solid rosewood, and the sideboard rests on a curved stretcher with tapered legs.
Ib Kofod-Larsen, born in Denmark in 1921, studied at the Danish Royal Academy in Copenhagen. In 1948, he won the Holmegaard glass competition and an annual award from the Danish Cabinetmakers Guild. This recognition led to his collaboration with Danish furniture manufacturer Faarup Møbelfabrik, where Kofod-Larsen created some of his most notable works during the 1950s. He also designed furniture for several other prominent mid-century manufacturers, including Christensen & Larsen, Bovenkamp, Petersens, and Fredericia Furniture.
Kofod-Larsen frequently worked with exquisite woods like teak and rosewood, as well as rich leathers. His designs are characterized by clean, sculptural lines. Noteworthy pieces include the U-56 or Elizabeth Chair (1956), which features a light teak frame and leather upholstery, allegedly named after England’s Queen Elizabeth II, who purchased a pair during a visit to Denmark in 1958 and the airy, modern Penguin chair (1953). His teak and leather-upholstered Sälen (or Seal) easy chairs, produced for OPE in the 1950s, have gained significant popularity in the vintage market in recent years. Kofod-Larsen's work is highly collectible today, primarily due to his ability to honor the inherent qualities of his chosen materials. The Real Wood Furniture(Chris Baylis) has large showrooms in the Cotswolds, specialising in English Windsor chairs, but also stocking an eclectic mix of decorative and fine furniture, objects, garden pieces etc.
