H.Wilkinson Grouse Shooting Etching circa 1955
The title of this image by the renowned English artist Henry Wilkinson we understand is 'Grouse Shooting'. It is a limited edition drypoint etching hand coloured by the artist numbered and signed in pencil 129/150. It has been well framed and double mounted. The picture is a quality work of art and in fabulous condition, the framing is also in great order so ready to hang.
Size: overall frame 49 cm high by 56 cm wide, image area 27.5cm high by 37 cm wide.
Henry Wilkinson (1921-2011) was best known for his hunting, shooting and fishing paintings, etchings and engravings, particularly of sporting dogs. He became the acknowledged master of canine engraving following the death of his mentor, Vernon Stokes. Wilkinson hand-painted each engraving so that no two were exactly the same.
Historical note:
Henry Wilkinson studied at Winchester College of Art, then the Royal College of Art in the painting school in addition he had a place in the Engraving School under Robert Austin, R.A., and Malcolm Osborne M.A. M.B.E.. He also studied in Germany, France and Italy. After the war he was elected to the Royal Society of Painter, Etchers, & Engravers, ultimately as a Councillor. For many years he was professor of the Engraving School at the City and Guilds of London. It was only after the death of his mentor, George Vernon Stokes, in 1954 that Wilkinson began producing his limited edition drypoints of dogs and other sporting subjects. He originated, printed and finished all aspects of his original etchings and line engravings. Buchanan and Laing Galleries are a private client business. Appointments can be made by arrangement via email.
