Pair of British Artist’s Proof Etchings by Graham

A rare and attractive pair of artist’s proof British etchings titled Woodman and Rifleman by Graham Clarke, from a small and characterful themed series depicting traditional English village pub scenes.
Both works are finely executed, showing Clarke’s distinctive narrative style and attention to detail. Each composition is rich with incident: figures gathered outside the inn, animals moving through the foreground, and carefully rendered architecture that evokes the atmosphere of rural England. The etchings reward close inspection, with numerous small details and humorous touches woven into the scenes, giving them warmth, charm and a strong sense of place.
These examples are artist’s proofs (A/P) and are hand signed by the artist, making them more desirable and scarce than standard edition prints. Artist’s proofs are produced in very limited numbers and are typically retained by the artist, adding to their collectability.
Dating to the late 20th century, circa 1980s–1990s, they reflect Clarke’s mature period, when village life and pub culture were recurring and popular subjects in his work. Presented as a matching pair, they display beautifully together and would suit both traditional and relaxed country interiors, appealing to collectors of British printmaking and narrative art.
