Huge Chinese Oriental Wallpaper Paintings Cranes
NOTE: SIX PANELS NOW SOLD. THREE REMAINING. PLEASE VIEW OTHER LISTINGS.
A Set of Monumental and Highly Unusual Antique Oriental Painted Wallpaper Panels - Great Provenance!
A stunning run of six truly huge antique Asian paintings, each depicting cranes set within extensive landscapes.
Each is executed in ink, wash and chalk on to paper and they date to around the last quarter of the 19th century (c. 1880).
The paper has been laid down to a jute backing and then stretched around wooden stretchers and they have been like this for many decades. The paintings are weathered and with some condition issues but they remain a striking and highly unusual find, the likes of which you will rarely see.
I originally had nine of these stunning panels. Three have already sold and I am now offering the remainder preferably as a run of six, or, I could potentially split. See my other items on Antiques Atlas for each panel offered individually or for details of those panels already sold.
Forward Use -
The forward use potential of these massive paintings is considerable. Perhaps most realistically, they could be cut or cropped down to create a large number of much smaller compositions and so provide an outstanding opportunity for an interior designer or decorator, either as an array of paintings in one room, or, spread out throughout a property. They would make an outstanding addition to an Asian or Chinese themed interior.....providing a sense of 'old China' and weathered decadence.
Provenance -
These panels have been removed from the Oriental room of a famous, grade II listed English mansion, where they were owned by a notable, British aristocratic family. They had been in situ for over 100 years (since the late 1890's) after their importation from the Far East. I am happy to give more information on request to genuine buyers.
Dimensions -
Each panel measures approx 110cms wide x 260 cms tall.
Condition -
With discolouration, wear and surface faults. The wear is most advanced at the borders and corners, with some flaking and loss. Some holes, surface scuffs and splatter marks - potentially rectifiable. Water staining to a few, at the lower margins. Please email me for more images prior to purchase. I am happy to illustrate.
Delivery -
UK delivery can be arranged for £150 (excluding highlands, Islands and Ireland). If you are overseas, call or email for shipping options. Thank you.
