Huge 140 LB Antique Dye Maker's Mortar & Pestle

Our Stock # 25758
This is a large antique dye maker's first stage Mortar & Pestle. An English, heavy cast iron industrial grinding tool, dating to the Georgian period, circa 1800.
Fascinating and of impressive proportion, this pairing would have been used to grind the initial source material, before refinement in smaller, bench-based mortars.
An exceptional example from the era of the burgeoning Industrial Revolution
Displays a desirable aged patina, gently time-worn commensurate with age and use
Robust cast iron presents rich Chestnut hues across the large tapered form
Wonderfully substantial at 62.1kg (136.9 lb), as one would expect from a factory setting
Impressive pestle sits in the hand with a weight of 6.2kg (13.66 lb)
This is a strikingly large and heavy antique mortar & pestle, with a delightfully weathered, authentic appearance and sheer heft. Sure to be a distinctive fireplace ornament or set outdoors. Delivered ready to display.
