Heals Tilden dining suite Heals Heal and Son Tilden %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A limed oak Tilden 'Churchill' dining suite made circa 1925.It is constructed from solid oak.The table is of the larger type, (often the table-top was 152 x 84cm) it has two pairs of column legs, a central stretcher and sledge feet. The side board has 2 cupboards with a shelf in each and between them is a wine storage drawer for 6 bottles. Beneath the cupboards there are 3 drawers. There are 6 chairs including 2 carvers upholstered in dark green leather.Six pieces carries a Heals ivorine lable two have been lost. The whole suite appears to be hardly ever used it is virtually unmarked, I would discribe it as pristine and in this condition a complete suite is very rare. This form of dining suite was originally designed in 1922 by the architect Philip Tilden in conjunction with Ambrose Heal for Winston Churchill's country residence at Chartwell.
