e are pleased to offer for sale this lovely seascape/coastal oil on canvas by the Italian artist GUIDO ODIERNA, who has signed the painting in full in the lower left hand corner. The painting is untitled, but we think depicts the sea around the southern Neapolitan coastal region, as scenes of this area and of Capri are most favoured by the artist.

GUIDO ODIERNA 1913-1991, was born on Capri, an island off the Neapolitan coast in Italy. He studied at the Academy around the late 1920s, early 1930s and later under Michele Federico (1834-1966). He also studied in the studio of Konstantic Goobatov (1876-1945), a Russian artist who lived on Capri.

He lived and worked at his studio on Capri at Via Certosa 19 and also maintained a studio and gallery in Rome at Via Ezio 24, where he also represented other artists.

During his lifetime he had 35 solo exhibitions in Italy, including Rome, Milan, Turin, Genoa and Trieste and group exhibitions in France and the US.

He painted oils of the seas around Capri, the Southern Italian coast, and Venice, as well as some still life paintings, but the sea, in all its moods, was his real love, as evinced by this painting.

He was a prolific artist and his many auction results are available on artprice (254 listings), findartinfo (174), arcadja (170) and artnet(126). His paintings achieve high prices.

The painting is presented in its original linen covered slip and painted and gilded original frame, which suits it very well. It is ready to hang.
