Groom With Hunter by Jonathan Adams
Groom with Hunter 2009 – original by John Ferneley Snr (1782 – 1860)
Well observed and authentically rendered copy of a Leicestershire hunter with its groom originally by one of England’s best known horse artists.
Jonathan Adams has been producing museum standard hand painted copies of fine oil paintings since the mid 1980s. All the materials he uses, canvas or panel, mediums, paint, stretchers and frames are of the finest quality and there are no short cuts or artificial processes used. By 1990 he was exhibiting copies at a prestigious gallery in Dover St, London, with Susy Ray, then one of Britain's foremost copyists. He copies, among others, Rembrandt, de Heem and George Stubbs.
John E. Ferneley was an English painter who specialised in portraying sporting horses and hunting scenes. Although his rendition of horses was stylised, he is regarded as one of the great British equine artists, second perhaps only to George Stubbs.
