Charming James Kyd oil on panel, "Spinning Maid in a Highland Cottage", signed and dated 1870 lower left. This painting depicting a young woman seated at her spinning wheel within a traditional Highland cottage interior. Kyd captures the warmth and texture of domestic life, from the glow of the hearth to the carefully rendered details of the spinning wheel, wool and rustic furnishings. His characteristic attention to atmosphere and narrative is fully present in this charming work. The panel measures 43cm x 55cm. The gilt frame shows some age‑related imperfections, but remains solid and highly decorative, complementing the painting beautifully. Several original labels accompany the piece, adding valuable context and a sense of its history and provenance.
James Kyd was a 19th‑century British genre painter active between the 1850s and 1870s.
