Graham Sutherland Foley Harrods 1934 Exhibition


A 1934 Foley 'First Edition' White Rose breakfast set for two designed by Graham Sutherland for the 1934 Harrods and 1935 Art in Industry exhibitions.Comprises teapot, milk, sugar, biscuit plate, 2 x cups and saucers. The milk jug has a fine crack as shown in the photos, but all other pieces are perfect and ring nicely when tapped. Just the usual underside kiln resting points associated with Foley ware. An example of this design is on display at the V&A -
Several other notable artists of the day including Paul Nash, Laura Knight, Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant were also commissioned by Foley and Clarice Cliff to submit designs for the exhibitions. The first 12 sets of each design were marked as First Editions.
