Glen Affric Scotland F E Jamieson (Graham Williams
Oil on Canvas, signed, inscribed verso. 16"x24"
Graham Williams Pseudonym for F.E. JAMIESON
Exhibited from 1910 – 1945. Painter in oil and watercolour of highland landscapes and coastal landscapes. The work of this highly prolific artist is curious as the oil and watercolour have two quite distinctive styles and subject matter. The oil paintings are most frequently seen and these are highland landscapes or Loch scenes – sometimes they are signed with pseudonyms such as Philips, Williams, Pienne,Richards or Phil Hips – and the location is often inscribed on the reverse. The watercolours are often coastal scenes with boats and figures on the shore, painted in a more traditional style, and possibly pre-date the oils. G. Agelli & Co. of London published F.E.Jamieson’s beach scenes as postcards in the 1920s on a textured card to give the appearance of oils. Jamieson appears to have travelled widely selling his paintings but rarely appears to have exhibited
