Here is a fine quality antique tilt top mahogany piecrust and birdcage tripod table, in the style of the Georgian Chippendale period, circa 1910, in excellent original condition. The top is constructed of solid top quality mahogany and boasts a stunning floral carved piecrust design to the perimeter. The tilt top table features the original hinges and original working brass-locking mechanism this locks the table into place when horizontal. Below, sits a four-pillar birdcage structure with a central wooden peg that connects the table to the pedestal. This bird card design allows the top to rotate. If the peg is removed, the table can be dismantled. The birdcage mechanism has been superbly made and the design denotes the quality of components used in the construction of this table. The table features a well-shaped and very good quality turned pedestal stem, featuring a bulbous section to the top, which incorporated floral blind fretwork detail. The stem terminates on an elegant fluted urn above three cabriole legs, which boast acanthus leaf carvings to the knees. The legs stand on well-carved ball and claw feet (sign of quality).
This item features a mid dark red-brown red mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish,it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms including the dining room, living room or the hallway. The table would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So don't miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of antique furniture.
