Georgian Red Chinoiserie Corner Cupboard
This is a fine Georgian hanging bow fronted Corner Cupboard.
It is painted and lacquered in chinoiserie decoration on a striking and unusual red ochre background.
Original painted softwood construction with curved panelled doors, and all original metalware - working lock and key, hinges, escutcheons and door catches
Shelves and backboards all original. The lower shelves are bow fronted, following the contours of the doors to maximise the area available. The uppermost shelf is recessed for small pieces but allowing taller items (such as vases) on the shelf below.
Cabinets of this type were notably popular in the 2nd half of the 18th century, influenced no doubt by Chinese porcelain and the antique furniture designs and styles of Thomas Chippendale for example.
Good examples in sound original condition and retaining their painted and lacquered finish are difficult to find.
Very good original condition throughout.
Some old non active wood worm holes to the top board
No cracks to door panels.
