This is a smart George V Silver Plate Four Slice Toast Rack. The toast rack has a square base on four bracket feet with round arched dividers and scalloped sides. There is an oval finger ring handle.

The toast rack is made in Birmingham by Elkington & Co and dates to 1920. Elkington & Co are one of the great names of English silverware. Founded by George Elkington in 1836, they took out the world's first silver electroplating patent in 1838 and this is what they are best known for. However they always continued to produce very high quality Sterling Silver alongside their silver plate. The company was merged into British Silverware with Walker & Hall and Mappin & Webb in 1963.

Condition is good, with no dings or dents, no plate loss and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 100 years of use. There is a slight rock when the rack is on a flat surface. Please make sure to viw all the photographs.

The toast rack base is 7cm / 2.7ins square and it stands 10cm / 3.9ins high. It weighs 86.5g / 3oz.

The front of the base is stamped ELKINGTON PLATE and has the date letter I in a quatrefoil, which is Elkington's date stamp for 1920.
