George III Bright Cut Salt Spoon, G. Smith, 1804 George III Georgian Silver %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is an attractive George III Bright Cut Sterling Silver Salt Spoon. The salt spoon is in the classic Old English pattern that has been enhanced with bright cut decoration down the front of the stem. The letter B is elegantly engraved in the cartouche at the top of the stem.

The salt spoon was made in London by George Smith (IV) and dates to 1804. George Smith (III) and George Smith (IV) were father and son silversmiths in London in the late 18th and early 19th century. George Smith Snr established the business in 1774 and was in partnership with William Fearn between 1786 and 1797. George Smith Jnr registered his mark and took over the business in 1798. He was in partnership with Richard Crossley from 1807 to 1812 when the latter retired.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 220 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The salt spoon is 9.9cm / 3.9ins long and weighs in at 8.8g / 0.31oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the London date letter L for 1804, the George III duty mark and the G S makers' mark for George Smith (IV).
