Gents 1920s 9ct Gold Watch, Mother Of Pearl Dial
A gents 1920s 9 carat gold watch with unusual mother of pearl dial.
The watch has a Swiss 15-jewel hand-winding movement which is working nicely.
The watch itself measures 25mm wide excluding the winding crown and 31mm high excluding the fixed wire lugs… it would suit a man with a slimmer wrist, or would work nicely as a lady’s watch. The case is 9 carat gold and there are hallmarks on the back of the watch for Glasgow (import mark) 1929, together with an importer’s mark for George Stockwell. From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items, which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail. The case is in good condition, just a couple of small indentations to the front and some unevenness to the case back.
The watch glass has some minor marking but is very acceptable.
Rather unusually, the dial is mother of pearl and it has a most attractive appearance. There is a crack running along the bottom of the dial, and one of the hands is a later replacement.
A new leather strap has been fitted.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
