A hundred and more years ago there was a thriving mini-industry in France for pictures such as these - particularly amongst young and recently commissioned officers. The technique of incorporating a photo portrait of the subject allowing a degree of mass production: despite the colour being hand painted. These two date from the early years of the last century with one featuring an officer of the Chasseurs, whilst the other depicts a dashing warrior of the 23rd Dragoons.

Matching frames are more modern and in good condition other than their glazing is absent - this happily making them far safer to put the post: which is included, to any UK address, in the price..
