Fine quality small Georgian oak chest of drawers
Fine quality small George III oak chest of 2 short and three long drawers in excellent antique condition.
Top has rounded front corners and moulded edges. The oak used for the top and drawer fronts has been quarter-sawn to maximise the distinctive figuring of the medullary rays.
The swan neck brass handles and escutcheons appear to be original - there is no evidence of any other holes having ever been drilled.
The drawers are oak lined with fine dovetailed joints at the front & back of the drawers. Four of the five original steel locks are present but there is no key at present.
The chest stands on bracket feet.
The original pine boards are present on the reverse.
This chest has many features which lift it above the ordinary: the choice by the cabinet maker of attractively figured timbers, the details on the top, the use of oak in the drawer linings, the calibre of the joints and the quality of the brass fittings.
Dimensions: 37" wide x 19" deep x 32" high
Condition: The chest is in excellent antique condition with few faults. One of the steel lock plates is missing (not visible until you open the drawer) and there has been a repair to the back edge of the left side, which again is difficult to spot.
Delivery can be arranged to anywhere on mainland England and most of Wales for £60.
