Fine pair of 18thC carved polychrome and gilded Solomonic torchere stands. At the base of the columns the plinths are supported by four carved lion paw feet and the edges of the plinths have decorative applied gesso acanthus moldings. The lower section of the columns have a small band of gesso egg and dart moldings, these are the only areas with applied gesso moldings. The columns have a carved and gilded grape vine that climbs all the way to the finely turned tops. These Torchere stands would be ideal for a pair of marble busts/ urns or even a pair of decorative plant pots with some cascading flowers like a Lobelia or petunia. The columns have some old minor restorations and some cracking/paint loss commiserate with age but otherwise are in excellent condition.
