Fine George l walnut veneered tallboy. c. 1725
FINE basically ALL ORIGINAL George I figured walnut veneered tallboy of a very nice neat size. The fronts are stunning with great figured walnut veneer used throughout. The drawers with moulded edges have a wide single plain walnut feathering and are oak lined with the bottom boards running from front to back. The drawers retain their lovely original engraved brass plate handles and original iron locks.
The bracket feet are also all original. Has a nice shape cornice and centre mould.
The ends are all oak including cornice, moulds and feet.
The overall condition is basically very good for a piece of this age and it is amazing the handles and feet have survived in tact. It does though require a few veneer repairs to the front in places, mainly around the carcass edges. The ends are also cracked in a number of places due to their thin-ness but have been blocked from the inside at some time in the distant past.
The patination and colour of the fronts is stunning due to its original oiled and waxed finish which has just been gently revived and waxed.
