Fine Burr Walnut Canterbury


A fine Victorian burr Walnut Canterbury/whatnot. This gorgeous piece has an adjustable reading slope built in to the top which is on a ratchet system so that you can alter the slope to you desired angle. The sides and uprights are beautifully pierced and shaped. Towards the base of the Canterbury is a hidden drawer which is supported by four bun feet. Once owned by Captain 'Tiger' Sarll (1882-1977) who was a war correspondent, big game hunter, Actor, Journalist and became well known for his characteristic dress of frock-coat, striped trousers, silk hat, patent leather boots with a monocle in one eye.
