Eighteenth Century oak hall table desk Georgian
This is such an interesting period hall table. I have called it Eighteenth century but the legs and shaped apron make me think it is very early eighteenth century perhaps earlier still? The shaped apron goes all the way around including the back. Just look at the bulbous shape to the knees of the front legs and look at the 'hoof' shape to the front feet. The hall table is made in solid oak and there is the real patina of age to the wood. The impressive brass face mask handles are original to it.
The table, like most early pieces, has been renovated at some time. This is a good sign as it shows that the piece has always been rated and has justified the considerable expense of renovation. I think the back legs and top, though old , are too crisp to date the eighteenth century?
I love this hall table and suspect it is an important early piece. The condition is good. The old oak glows. It will look particularly good in a period setting.
The table is 33 inches wide and 19 inches deep and 28 inches high.
