A charming antique Liberty & Co oak open bookcase dating from circa 1905. In beautifully figured solid oak with trefoil cut outs to the sides, Moorish shaped feet and channelled edges. The shelves are held in place with pegs, as well as back slats which are held in place with their original screws, making this a sturdy piece.

From the early 1900s Liberty & Co began to sell its own range of Arts and Crafts antique furniture manufactured in commercial workshops. The ‘Sedley’ as this portable oak bookcase was known was a product of this home-grown arts and crafts antique furniture, a 4 tier version of which is illustrated in their 1907 Yuletide Gifts catalogue.

Good condition, with scuffs and marks commensurate with age. Some scuffs to the shelves. A small split visible to lower edge on one side solid and sturdy.
