Edwardian Framed Tapestry
Fabulous Edwardian tapestry framed in a solid oak frame with gilded slip in excellent condition. The tapestry depicts figures dressed in period clothing standing on steps with trees and shrubs in the background. The colours of the tapestry are bright and do not appear faded in any way. Like all antiques there are some imperfections however nothing of note and the frame is solid and the glass is clear. This vintage piece of needlework has a charmingly naïve appeal and it's wonderful oak frame is rich in colour and frames the tapestry beautifully.
I have been informed this embroidery depicts the epic poet Torquato Tasso being crowned with laurel leaves by (presumably) Leonora de 'Este, with her brother the Duke of Ferrara in the background.
