A stunning and very rare hand painted Carter tile from the Sporting Series designed by Edward Bawden. Originally designed by Bawden in 1922, this is from the mid century second issue. There were 6 tiles in the series showing a range of typically British 1920's leisure pursuits. The tile is in excellent, condition with, unusually, no crazing, just some light scuffing to the bottom edge (photo 2) and a small nibble to the back edge. Measures 6 inches x 6 inches (15.4cm) and .5 cm deep. Some light cement residue to the back and a few tiny pieces on the sides and edges. Marked Carter Tiles, the number 5916324, and SP5.
