Early 20th Century Whisky Flask, Royal Doulton

1 of 6
This is a striking early 20th century Stoneware Whisky Flask. The flask is ovoid with a flat base, a narrow neck and a short handle. The front of the flask has the words Special Highland Whisky in raised banners above and below a raised image of the Galley of Lorne with its defiant Boar's Head on the sail.
The flask was made by Royal Doulton at the famous Lambeth factory in London and dates to between 1902 (when Doulton became Royal Doulton) and around 1914. The flask was made for the distillers Greenlees Brothers for their Special Highland Whisky. The Galley of Lorne was the symbol of the 12th century Somerled, King of the Isles and later incorporated into the coat of arms of the Campbell family Dukes of Argyll.
Condition is very good, with no chips or cracks and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The flask stands 17cm / 6.7ins high and is 13.5cm / 5.3ins in diameter at its widest point. It weighs 1.197kg / 42.2oz.
The underside of the base has the Royal Doulton stamp, giving us a date of 1902 or later and the Registered Design No 4913, showing the original design was created in 1884. Production of these flasks ceased at the start of the First World War.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
