Early 20th C. Silver Plated Shell Dish, Yeoman Plate
Here we have a top quality Early 20th Century Silver Plated Shell Dish from around the 1920s / 30s. The dish is in the classic scallop shell shape but stands on three short Art Deco style stepped legs. The handle is also moulded with a small scallop shell and two acanthus scrolls.
The dish is made by Yeoman Plate in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire. Founded in 1897, the firm quickly established a reputation for very high quality silver plate and went on to become one of the principal silver plate suppliers to the likes of Harrods, Fortnum & Mason, Liberty & Co, Asprey, Garrard and other prestigious retailers.
This would have almost certainly been originally intended as a butter dish but it works equally well for nuts or snacks, mayonnaise or dip, as a trinket dish on a dressing table or bedside cabinet or for small stationery items on a desk.
Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and no plate loss, just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after this period of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The dish is 15.1cm / 5.9ins from handle to rim, 12.5cm / 4.9ins across and 3.5cm / 1.4ins high. It weighs 178g / 6.3oz.
The underside of the dish has a moulded Made In England under the handle and a stamped mark of Yeoman Silver Plated, Made In England.
