Early 20th C. Silver Plate Muffin Fork, c.1900-25
This is a very smart early 20th Century Silver Plate Muffin Fork with a Mother of Pearl handle and engraved decoration on the head of the fork. The tradition is that an English Muffin should be split with a fork rather than a knife before toasting as this preserves the uneven, fluffy texture of the interior which then crisps when toasted.
The muffin fork is made in Sheffield by Harrison Fisher & Co and dates to the period c.1900 to 1925. Founded by Harrison Fisher in the 1890s, the company became Harrison Fisher & Co in 1900 and ceased manufacturing in 1925, so we can be confident of the date range.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents in the silver plate sections and no damage to the mother of pearl handle, which is securely attached. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The muffin fork is 13.5cm / 5.3ins long and weighs 23.9g / 0.84oz.
The marks, on the back of the stem, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. The show the H F & Co makers' mark for Harrison Fisher & Co, the S for Sheffield and the EP stamp for silver plate.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
