Early 19thC French Flowers in Basket Embroidery
Chenille type flower basket embroidery. Framed in an old, gilded, gesso frame with rippled, old glass. Glued (we believe, though not inspected out of the frame) to wood backing, around the outer edges. The embroidery is worked in chenille wool and metallic thread in a variety of stitches, on a silk ground. Colours greens, cream, red, yellow, gold and brown. Picture depicts a large basket of flowers. Signed with initials 'MR' (Possibly) to front of basket.
