An Interesting Early 19th Century French Empire Walnut Commode with Ormolu Mounts and Paw Feet.

This commode has a grey and white veined marble top which is original to the piece. Veneered throughout in curly walnut. The frieze sits above three recessed drawer fronts flanked by turned column supports with both bases and capitals featuring fine ormolu mounts. The base mounts have leaf work detailing and the capitals have a combination of stars and flower heads. Standing on carved paw feet with leaf detailing above. It is unusual to find feet like these being used also on the back legs, a sign of quality.

The walnut surface is a lovely colour. The timber is well chosen and bookmatched. A lovely example of a commode from this period. It stands really well on the four paw feet.
