D'Esposito Maltese 19th C. Watercolour Malta
We are very pleased to offer for sale this very well detailed watercolour by the Maltese artist D'Esposito, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner. The watercolour depicts the Maltese Fort St. Angleo, owned by the Order of St. John and which is situated in the town of Birgu, at the entrance to the Grand Harbour at Valletta. There is a fleet of brightly painted luzzus or Maltese fishing boats rowing out to sea.
This watercolour is signed D'Esposito and because we are unable to distinguish which of the many artists named D'Esposito or Esposito it is, we cannot offer any biographical information for the artist.
However, there are many auction listings for this artist under this signature and the work bears a great resemblance to the paintings of Vincenzo D'Esposito. Auction listings under D'Esposito may be found at artprice (33 listings), arcadja (15), findartinfo 48) and artnet (30). Both of these artists painted warships and other vessels, as well as Maltese views.
The painting has been newly double mounted to complement in acid-free mountboard and is newly framed in an attractive 1 1/8" dull silver frame to suit.
Medium Watercolours
