Danish Teak Bang and Olufsen 900RG Radiogram
Now Sold.
A Fine and Beautiful Example of a Vintage Bang & Olufsen 900RG DeLuxe Radiogram.
The hallowed 900RG - in our view the best looking radiogram of its generation - dates from the late 1960's and the model 'made waves' when first launched.
beoworld.org retain high praise for the 900RG stating, "no other stereo radio gramophone with low, modern, yet reasonable dimensions is so beautifully styled as this".
Indeed, the design is breathtaking and I'd argue as beautifully conceived as any cabinet-made Danish sideboard from the 1960's. Book-matched teak veneer is combined with solid timbers, narrow ebonised sections and darker, chamfered speaker laths to create an inspired and wonderful looking piece of antique furniture.
Whilst it is fair to say there were a number of 'good and functional' radiograms on the market in the 60's, produced by various British firms, the 900RG from Denmark was deemed somewhat 'exotic' and it completely broke the mould. It introduced the uncluttered and clean design-led lines (normally reserved for the best mid-century modern furniture) to the radiogram market, which was somewhat lagging behind in terms of style.
The 900RG retailed at over £150 on launch and moved Bang and Olufsen away from historic valve radio / hi-fi and into the world of solid-state / transistor electronics. Inside, the piece incorporates a BeoMaster 900 stereo radio receiver as well as the now iconic Beogram 1000 record player.
The twin lids are pneumatically damped and, when let go, lower themselves slowly and smoothly so that they eventually shut without making a sound (no jumping records or interrupted music).
There is partitioned storage providing space aplenty for vinyl of various sizes, or any other objects you wish to stow away and, whether by design or not, the front section is deep enough to accommodate wine bottles...so the piece could effectively double as a cellarette / bar, if desired!
We are not dealers in vintage electronics specifically, but have held a deep and sincere admiration for this particular model of radiogram for the past 15 years, having previously supplied several to our patient buyers, looking to acquire the right example at the right price.
The teak case has been carefully restored to a good standard and it displays well. The beogram has been fitted with a new B&O drive belt, a replacement idler wheel and a new tone-arm spring. The Beomaster receiver has had a new bulb set so that everything is perfectly illuminated, a switch clean and tuning adjustment and returns strong and clear FM sound. The machine also benefits from an entirely non-invasive 'upgrade' in the form of wireless blutooth compatibility, fitted discreetly inside the case, meaning you are able to wirelessly stream your favourite music from your chosen device (iPod, iPhone etc).
Finally, the whole unit will be PAT tested prior to collection / dispatch.
Viewing and listening in person welcomed and recommended.
