Cotswold School Rocking Chair by Edward Gardiner
An Arts & Crafts Cotswold School rocking chair to an Ernest Gimson design made by Ed Gardiner c1930's. A turned solid ash frame, curved top rail, uprights with shaped finials, spindle back and rush seat. In very good condition, all joints are tight and the rush seat is intact. Stamped to the leg. Early in its life it looks as if it was painted, but 95% has worn off so its just the remnants deep in the grain which gives an appearance of liming.
Ed Gardiner was encouraged to take up chair making by Ernest Gimson c1904, who in turn was encouraged by Philip Clissett.

38cm seat height
Our stock items are carefully selected by myself and I only buy good quality items which may need small repairs, a clean and a polish. I don't buy any items that need major restoration, but any loose joints are re-glued. Occasionally, some items may have small amounts of historic extinct woodworm, never enough to affect the integrity of the item, and is always treated as a matter of course. We try to describe and show our items the best we can, and we use studio lighting which sometimes lightens the colour slightly on some of the furniture. All lamps are rewired and PAT tested. Every item we sell we would have in our home (some of them have been!!) It is impossible to describe every item fully, so please feel free to email or call for more information or any queries you may have. The items will have no major defects but will show signs of normal age related wear and use. I would prefer the items to show its life rather than strip it and re-polish it, as it's only original once!
