Circa 1900 Oil Portrait North African Turkish Man
We are offering for sale this very well executed but, unfortunately, unsigned portrait oil on canvas of a North African or Turkish man. We are not sure of his nationality, but mention Turkish, as the style of his turban looks more Turkish or Ottoman. He appears to be in his twenties or thirties and is wearing a white garment, clasped at the neck with a crimson robe over it. He has a scroll in his hand.
As the painting is unsigned and, due to the relining, any possible information on the back of the canvas is now invisible, we can offer no biographical information about the artist. Suffice it to say, he or she had a very competent hand.
The painting has been newly framed in a 3 1/2" ornate gilt frame and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
Image size 29 1/2" x 21 1/2" - 74.9cm x 54.6cm
Frame size 36 1/2" x 28 1/2" - 92.7cm x 72.4cm
Medium Oils on canvas
Condition Excellent condition. The painting has been relined in the past and is now clean and taut. There is no craquelure, paint loss or stretcher marks. The frame is new.
