Here is a very good quality and unusual antique solid walnut settle, in the style of the Chippendale period, circa 1920, in excellent condition. The settle features a stunning quality carved back incorporating a triple shaped head rail with centered cartouches around a finely executed interlaced open fretwork back, with open splats that connect to the splayed arms. The settle features a drop-in seat, which has been newly upholstered in a top quality hard wearing taupe shade wool & cotton upholstery. The padded and webbed seat is firm but comfortable it does not sag. The seat sits in a serpentine shaped frame, which incorporates carved cartouches to the apron. Elegantly shaped cabriole legs that feature scroll acanthus leaf carvings to the knee of the legs, terminate on pronounced ball and claw feet on the front of the settle with sabre shaped legs to the rear. This item features a mellow walnut colour and has a fantastic colour and patination.

This settle is in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the solid walnut frame but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The carved frame and arms are also in excellent condition with no splits or lose joints. Furthermore, all carving is complete and not damaged. The backs and arms are solid. The settle has been newly upholstered therefore the upholstery is in excellent condition (clean and no signs of wear, tear or damage). This item is solid in joint, does not wobble and is ready to use.
