Chinese Stem Cup - Dragon And Phoenix - Circa 1900 Chinese porcelain dragon %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Chinese famille rose stem cup/bowl. Exceptionally finely painted with a 5-clawed dragon (Emperor) facing a beautiful phoenix ( Empress) over waves. The 6 character underglaze blue Yongzheng mark is perfectly lined below the centre of the phoenix and dragon. Believe to date circa 1900 - Guangxu period. The overglaze iron red shows impurities typical of this period. The phoenix tail feathers and dragon mane are particularly well produced, probably using a single-hair brush.Wonderful enamel colours - phoenix is particularly colourful - but the entire bowl is coloured. The return of the bowl has imperial yellow enamelling with over-glaze detailing. There is famille rose lattice pattern on the stem, using a thick, protruding glaze and underglaze blue cross-hatching around the foot.
Condition: very good. No chips, cracks or repairs.
Size: height 10.5 cm, diameter 12 cm
