Chinese landscape vase - 18th Century Chinese landscape vase porcelain %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A very interesting Chinese 'landscape' vase believed to date from the 18th Century. Underglaze blue, finely painted in somewhat of a 'Master of the Rocks' style, with mountains, rocky retreats, fishermen, pine trees, bamboo groves etc all within 2 window cartouches. The detailed painting is similar to some traditional ink painting in style. The porcelain is a particularly fine white and there is an empty double ring mark to the base.
This vase is somewhat similar to a vase sold at Bonhams New York on 21st July 2020.
Condition: There is surface scratching and the glaze is very worn in places and almost matt in some areas. There are a few small areas showing brown spots and light staining on the shoulder. It is possible that the vase was once part of a ship wreck and has been cleaned. There are no breaks or cracks.
Size: height 22.5 cm.
