Fine Chinese 18th century Kangxi style porcelain shallow bowl. This would have been initially decorated simply in underglaze blue before being exported to Europe. Gilt and coloured enamels were then added, in European taste - the term 'clobbered' fits this bowl perfectly, looking as though the entire colour palette has been thrown at it! The red mark on the base was also added in Europe - representing the European idea of Chinese characters.
Good condition although faint hair line to rim, only visible from reverse, minor flea bites.
Diameter 22.5 cm, depth 4.5 cm.
