This is a delightful Art Deco Carlton China milk jug and sugar bowl in their "Springtime" pattern. Carlton China was produced for a comparatively short period between 1928 and 1932 when Wiltshaw & Robinson, the owners of the Carlton Ware brand, bought the the Vine Pottery and before their bank, rather shortsightedly, forced them to sell it. In the 4 year period they produced a huge number of different designs but "Springtime" was one of the very few that was given a specific name.

The handpainted decoration is absolutely typical of Art Deco era ceramics, with colourful flowers and trees in blossom on one side and three swallows (a swallow was the original trademark of Wiltshaw & Robinson) on the other.

Both the milk jug and the sugar bowl are in very good condition with no chips or cracks. The milk jug is 6cm high and just under 11cm across from lip to handle. The sugar bowl is 5.5cm high and 8cm in diameter. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
