Capodimonte Signed and marked Large Figurine
A fine example of a hand crafted and painted figurine of a Sleeping Fisherman holding a fishing rod in one hand .There is a fish nibbling at the left toe and done in great detail. To the right of the male a cat can be seen sniffing around the catchment basket with a fishes head protruding from the basket and an empty food can nearby. Absolutely great craftsmanship to produce such life like intricate detail as is on this piece. There are many capodimonte sleeping fisherman and tramps but I have not seen this design as yet so very collectable. There is a very fine hairline fracture around the base (see photos ) which can not be felt to touch. There is part of the fishing rod missing which be restored and some glue work has taken place on the rod (see photo). Due to this minimal restoration needed We are willing to negotiate the price fairly.
This particular piece is finished with great care to detail and is all individually hand painted.
The porcelain has a bisque semi matt finish and is carefully fired at low temperatures, which produces a hardened bone china finish.
The artists signature, named "Milio", can be seen at the back of the base. And there is the black hand painted N marking at base of the item and the number 143.
A limited number or examples of this splendidly modelled fisherman figurine would have been produced for a collectors market.
Capodimonte has risen considerably in value over the last 10 years and many lesser manufacturers have tried to copy the make with much poorer pieces, some being made of a fragile plaster mix.
