C18th Carved Walnut High-Back Hall Chair
This antique chair looks to date from the first half of the eighteenth century. It has a lovely carved walnut show frame in the style of Daniel Marot and a very high back. The chair has a later over-upholstered seat, with canework beneath, and a lower carved apron. It has a later upholstered back panel. The chair is supported on shaped front legs with turned supports and swept back legs.
Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing, knocking and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is overall a little faded. There is some movement in the joints as might be expected. The upholstery is later and dated with some fading and wear. There is some fraying in places and some wear and loss to the tassles. The chair has some signs of restoration and repair as might be expected from a piece of this age. There are some signs of old woodworm, which is not active.
The approx measurements are as follows:
135cm high, 48cm wide, 48cm deep (to maximums). Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
